This course is intended for senior undergraduate students majoring in Chemical Engineering. The objectives of the course are:
1) to provide an overview of processes and technologies in modern chemical industries;
2) to develop an understanding and appreciation for the fundamental principles and methodologies in chemical process developments by case studies;
3) to develop an understanding and appreciation of typical chemical processes and technologies;
4) to develop trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills in chemical industry processes by applying basic principles into the process analysis.
The contents of this course include:
① fundamental concepts and principles of chemistry and chemical engineering,
② typical processes in chemical industries,
③ important chemical reaction mechanisms,
④ workings of critical instruments,
⑤ chemical process analysis and design.
After finishing the course, students should be able to carry out a technical evaluation on a chemical process and develop trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills by applying basic principles into process analysis.
